About Session
Credit unions have long played an important role in supporting the social and economic well-being of Atlantic Canadian communities. Through local decision-making, community reinvestment, business lending, and partnerships with governments, nonprofits, and community organizations, credit unions contribute to outcomes that extend well beyond financial services.
In recognition of International Credit Union Day, this panel will bring together external partners from the business, nonprofit, and public sectors to share perspectives on the value credit unions bring to the communities they serve. Steve Dunne (The Dunne Group), Margo Butler (John Howard Society, Fundy Region), and Josh Tavenor (Government of Nova Scotia) will discuss why they chose to work with credit unions, how those partnerships have supported their organizations, and where future opportunities for collaboration may exist.
Drawing on experiences in community development, housing, small business growth, government program delivery, and social services, panelists will explore the unique strengths credit unions bring as locally focused financial partners.
